Here you'll find my synth and gear demo's.
I want to focus on what I'd want to see, and what I think is missing from RUclips.
Sometimes this is studio gear and how I use/misuse it, and sometimes its synthesizers I buy and rent out via denversynth.com
Most of the synth demos will be filling in what doesn't already exist. I don't want repeat what's already out there. I want to show you how I utilize something, and hopefully that gives you an idea for something you'd like to do.

Did I just solve the NIN "The Great Destroyer" question???
A mystery has somewhat riddled me for years: what exactly did Trent Reznor user to process the drum loop in the middle of the NIN song "The Great Destroyer" to cause it such annihilation?
Did he run it through a ton of modular gear?
How about tubes?
What about plugins?
The internet is rife with ideas and theories about what could possibly filter, overdrive, distort, re-filter, and modulate something into sonic oblivion?
I think I know what the drums were processed with....

For as long as I can remember, I have thought about making music like this, throbbing dance music but through the thick wall of distortion. I don't know why it's taken me this long to do it, but it came to me today; minimal number of machines and gritty distortion with saturation so heavy that it becomes something else. This setup allows the manifestation of this fever dream. This is quite a bi...

Evening improv EDM on the MC-707 and TR-8S

This took about an hour to get made and bouncing. I'm finding the MC-707 really fast for sketches due to its quick nature and amazing randomizer. The built in effects are really important to dirty up the tones. Meanwhile, the TR-8S is still SO much better for drums because of its ACB and quick access. . #jamuary

Abstrakt Avalon MOD ENV sidechain tips and tricks
Просмотров 1525 месяцев назад
The MOD ENV on the Avalon can be super useful as a sidechain for 4 on the floor music. In this use, it will duck the audio on the steps that its triggers. The MOD ENV is a simple Attack/Decay envelope which you can use on the filter or VCA. You need to adjust the Attack/Decay according to the tempo, and you can get syncopated things going on which aren't possible on a standard Roland TB-303. Ne...

This also sounds like what’s being used on Too Much by Sufjan Stevens!
Year Zero has some excellent and under appreciated sound design. I have often messed around with modular patches to try and recreate this drum sound, it's nice to know how Trent really did it.
I agree! Really good sound design to amplify pretty good songs. I think this was it, but who knows?
@@Manmademadman I think its gotta be the Sherman. Plus in 2006-2007 when they were working on Year Zero modular options were alot more limited. You can get in the ballpark with modular for sure, but it requires a relatively complicated setup and this just sounds right on the money and its all there in a single piece of gear, I don't think it is a coincidence.
So sorry mate, not your fault. But why THE F is RUclips showing me a video with less than 150 views on my homepage and essentially zero subs. YT, stop trying to be Insta!!! Stop screwing our feeds. This is insane. All the best mate. Good luck.
Over 1k subs is essentially zero...? And while I did catch the video relatively early compared to the mainfeed slop that gets pushed out (and I welcome supporting the smaller humble channels who aren't yet creating solely for a paycheck), this is definitely relevant to MY searches - I wonder if it has any relevance to yours? Musician or NIN fan? Or just, y'know, youtube was supposed to be about exploring videos of ALL kinds.
Wow to be a kid and have nothing to complain about except RUclips recommendations not being exactly what you want
...do you only want to be shown things lots of other people like?
...now I want a filterbank.
That’s wicked
Awesome video

Thank you!!!
Thanks for the video. Sherman FBs are made for drums!! Own 2 of them. Both currently paired with 3 Moogerfoogers (Clusterflux Ring Mod and Phaser) in a closed feedback loop noise machine feeding a tube guitar amp. Use the CV in/out quite a bit.
Thats a great chain and very capable! Thanks for watching!
This is absolutely rad!
nice, not sure if i want this or a euphonia 😩🎬
...walks into your studio and sees a wall full of vintage Lexicons... it says much more than any great sounding plugin can.
Is there an outboard analog pedal/gear that can further analog the signal? Maybe analog heat?
An Analog Heat would be great! I picked up an Overstayer Modular Channel for such duties, which is completely and utterly overkill; thus I love it!
You can buy 20 system 8's for the price of Jupiter 8
Thx madman, great rev
Juicy...
Thanks for the overview! In this setup I would have put the delay return on it's own channel, so you could sculpt it more or even control the Feedback with the mixer send. What is this stand the Mixer 1 is on, is it stable enough or wiggly?
ah you said it's an Apache A1, I don't find this particular model, what inch size is it? The Mixer 1 is kind of special in size, as it's quite deep. So is the 12'' model stable enough, does it just fix by weight?
@@el_dani Looks like the Apache A1 has been replaced with the Warthog. I assume same build, minus the triangular foot. This stand DEFINES "built like a tank" because i could stand on it, and I have accidentally. It's overbuilt and will not rock or wiggle at all. Big fan of his gear!
Appreciate the feedback... I have found over the years that delay into its own channel isn't necessary if there's a delay return like on the MODEL1. Why? Because the OTO has a feedback knob and programmable filtering built in, but more importantly because it takes up a precious stereo channel. Most other delays these days have feedback filtering too. The MODEL1 has a "lowcut on 1/2" button which does the additional job. In my studio, I have all effects going to a separate bus (Speck Xtramix CXI) so that they can be recorded/tweaked on their own in the DAW. Live (and in the heat of the moment) you can easily get lost and have runaway delays/reverbs and having one place to look works best for me.
@@Manmademadman that‘s true. Only thing I will miss from my actual bigger mixer and what you can‘t do with this solution: send the delay return channel to another aux for example to put Reverb on the delay signal. I‘ll have all the inputs on a patchbay anyway, so if I‘m in Dub mood I can adjust my routing.
@@Manmademadman ok, thanks for the response. To understand the Dimension; the 12'' would be the right fit? Just want to get sure, as I pay 65 bucks for shipping and import duties. Haven't seen any other options yet..
take time to adjust sounds more equivalent before recording...
Cool name
Sick my dude, really is tight 4:50... :)
Someone who doesn't hear the difference in sound between the two, doesn't deserve to have the hardware Lexicon! I'd appreciate if you would hand it over to me.
Thanks for posting! I definitely need one of these in my life. Just to clarify, the time and factor knobs.
Actually the opposite of that. TIME knob clears the buffer each non-stepped increment, while FACTOR slows down/speeds up the delay time. Sorry if I misspoke. Still, a great stereo or dual mono delay.
Not sure if the settings were truly equivalent (assuming that Primal Tap's controls weren't scaled and calibrated to exactly match PrimeTime's), but in the first 2 examples especially, the PTime rang out a lot longer and brighter. I don't care if that's in a mix or not, I would 100% hear it. Were you not able to adjust the controls to match the sounds any better? If not, then I'd say PTap is a good approximation, but there's still a noticeable gap. Now whether that is 'better" or not really depends on your goals and mix. But anyone who says these sound the same is either deaf or daft.
Thanks for this video However, I wish you did chord to chord and line to line when comparing sounds You did "dual mode" on the Jupiter-8 but compared it to mono/whole mode on rhe system 8. That's wrong my friend. You wrote on top of that segment that the System-8 was not in dual mode so why didn't you correct it? I've owned 2 totally restored (by Kent) Jupiter-8's back during the 1990's and a Jupiter-6 but I kept only the MKS-80 Rev4 and I love the System 8. Love it. Btw, my JX3P on the system 8 is awsome. I did own during the 80's JX3P and later the Mks30 but now ive got 2 of the boutique JX03 and the System 8. They are so much flexible and can imitate the original easily. You also forgot to mention the System 8 itself lol. There's one thing I do love about the Jupiter-8 and its the Random arp. The progression is so cool and I never heard any random arp on any other instrument. Also the response time in the arp when in lets say dial mode bass is simply unbeatable. I'm still trying to capture it. I also love the JP08. Very underestimated synth
Asolutely love that sound and everything! great job man. Im your subscriber. captainfantastica, theguitaristfromurningman
This is techno
but it's a bad techno. and a bad demo. and unfortunately this became a rule for the Overstayer here: only 10 vids, not a single good, comprehensive demo, and worse, most use such a crappy tune and recorded so badly that one may only wonder how the hell Jeff's been sold out for years now )) but seriously, the MC is really under-represented
hot
Bought one and sold it. Fader curve suck on it. Buy the rest of this mixer is so great i miss it. Maybe its Meat to work bringing faders up to 0db instead all the way up. Anyway it was an akward curve never have i experience such a weird fader curve. And i own a xonev6 Xone 62 Xone 92 And now a Xone 96 And none have that awfull curve thank god. I might buy one and modify it rotary. Ill see The per channel filter was awesome And Master filter was great awesome way to mix.
They have a lot of headroom, so maybe it's just familiarization?
Hard toss up between the SEM and R:OTA. Thanks for sharing.
Agreed! Some days I prefer the SEM, and some days I prefer the R:OTA filter for a more SH-101 bouncy sound.
How did you get your System-8 white/blue lights?!! I hate those stock green lights.
I had a tech do the change to white for me. It took him about 4 hours altogether and he refuses to do it ever again!
Nice, subbed!
Hot!
Great video! Ho did you change the led colors of the System 8 from green to blue?
I had a tech friend do it, and he is STILL mad at me to this day. It took about 6 hrs to change them all to white.
That sounds absolutely fantastic. I’m sure this is what the band Genesis was using around 1980.
Great comparison! Thanks for the video!
Thanks for watching!
beautiful, some kind of "synthesizer", I have a Korg SDD-1000 and it does some similar things, but the audio on this Lexicon is delicious
It sure is! Make sure you check out the video demo I did vs. the SoundToys Primal Tap; their emulation is stunning!
I came 🤣
Awesome review does this have a new version coming? It sounds better than original Roland tb 303 I could be wrong but i cannot disagree with anyone
No, not a new version, but the silver version is limited. This is the same version Abstrakt has always made for 10+ years. And I agree: it sounds better, is built better, and is BETTER for me than every 303 I've ever owned. Definitely an inspiring and LIVE piece I use all the time for tracks and shows!

@@leyetnin1 Excellent, and great to hear. You're gonna love it!
How would you record this as a Mono Bass track?
See reply below: basically remove SPREAD from the patch, and record a single side without any built in Effects/Distortion.
Got you so the spread knob make the L and R outputs the exact same when at 0%?
@@Skiroy Kind of. The spread knob at 100% alternately pans each note hard right then left. At 0% they are panned Center.
what effects or proccessing do you have on this thing? Why does it sound so huge compared to mine?
No effects or processing, but you bring up a good point I forgot to mention: I have this in Unison mode with Spread at 100%, so that 3 voices go hard Left while the remaining 3 voices are panned hard right. This makes it huge in stereo, and amazing on Unison with all 6 voices. (You could choose to do it with 3 voices so that you can have some decay left over.
added to my actual (and ever) favs!
THANKS FOR LISTENING! If you like that version, you might LOVE this version: soundcloud.com/manmademadman/touch-3mix
Hey, great jam and thanks for the Birds!!
The hardware sounds like five times better. Drop that plugin bullsit.
Cool wanna send me $5000 to buy and maintain a PrimeTime? Yes it sounds better, but there's a reason people switched to software.
@@hostnik777 No, just use the plugins that are as close to hardware as it can be.
Very nice instrument, both soundwise as esthetically. ❤ A modulation question though, out of curiosity: apart from S&H is there a way to ‘sync’ one of the LFO’s to the tempo of an inbound gate (for instance coming from a sequencer)? I honestly do not know if this way of syncing was all that easy to realise with 70’s circuitry. Most of the times, tempo based modulation seems to have been done with an additional CV output on the sequence, back in those days, no? Or by resetting the LFO via a gate, combined with a manual tempo synchronisation.
It's not possible to trigger the LFO's (either one) with any input. I haven't found a way to fake this either. It was more important to me to get the S+H clocked from gate, which it now easily does.
@@Manmademadman nice NAMM presentation with SonicState by the way. Loved it. It is truly a beautiful instrument. As an hommage and in its own right.
